building the retro rocket ship and other exciting adventures!

I truly have the best job in the world! I love working with creative young people, and kickstART youth markets project is no exception. I am working with a really talented and inspiring team of young people, and such passionate colleagues. A dedicated micro-site and blog have been set up, workshops are being held, stall holders are getting ready to sell their wares, an art trail is being planned . . . the list goes on, and the flagship event for National Youth Week WA 2011 is going to be extraordinary! Oh, and we are sending out moleskines across WA for a Sketchbook project and pop-up gallery too!

The workshop venues at City Farm & REmida (and their staff) are just delightful and run amazing organisations of their own. Lewis Horne has worked his magic with scrap metal and the ideas of young people. You can see more images of the retro rocket progress here.

I am so totally impressed with the work that is being produced. You can check more out on the Propel Youth Arts WA website too.

Fibre Arts - I am in love!

I want to share some stunning art works created by my lovely colleagues at DADAA Inc. A few weeks ago, Jean Conroy visited. She is a fibre artist from Ireland, and she came with ideas, challenges, and inspiration to work with a team from DADAA. The photos are all taken by Matt Scurfield, who does some stunning work. Thank you Matt!

Melville Sculpture Walk

I have been collaborating with the lovely Peta to create a 3-piece sculpture for the Melville Sculpture Walk - it launches next week! It has been a totally inspiring journey, spending time together with a like-minded artist -  creating, talking, dreaming, questioning, conspiring, laughing, and just having fun! And yes, tea and cake have been involved! 

I have lots of process pics to share! I will post more about our concept with the final, installed pieces, but we are creating 3 cocoon-like sculptures which represent "think", "listen", and "lean". 

Here is "learn" - we both love the playfulness and bright colours of this piece.

This one is "think', and is more delicate than the others.

Here is "listen" which uses neutral tones and will have hanging shells inside - put one up to your ear . . . . 

We have a 3 year old apprentice who created this piece! We all got stickers for our good work. 

oh! the inspiration!

I have just been hopping from blog to blog, as I often do, looking for things of beauty, interest, and inspiration. I just stumbled across Tatyana Yanishevsky. WOW. Her creations are just stunning! I am particularly awed by the light pieces - the super big lillium chandelier (still a work in progress) is most amazing!  

montage - a pop-up shop!

A collective of some of my new and dear crafting friends took up a pretty awesome opportunity to run their own pop-up shop in Fremantle for a month. They called their store Montage. A perfect store name for the gorgeous and colourful handmade wares inside. I visited, and came home happy, with a handful of wonderful!

So I would like to thank petrafanella, osier, B.H.O, eeva margita for their imagination, crafts-person-ship and all round awesomeness!

birthday surprises

Yes, it is my birthday on the weekend, and my gorgeous and lovely colleagues at Propel Youth Arts WA just gave me an early pressie (because G and I are heading away for a long weekend holiday). How exciting!! I ADORE it! How lucky am I to have such amazing people in my life, and all around me. Thank you Propel family.

PS - I have a sneaking suspicion that this marvelous book may have been purchased from one of my favourite shops - William Topp! The wrapping is a give away! :)
